Signing happens in your browser using PDF-lib, so the file is read into memory on your own machine and never transmitted.

It is not a cryptographic digital signature backed by a certificate authority, which is a different mechanism that binds the signature to the document's contents and to a verified identity, and makes tampering detectable.
